The REDMI K50 packaging has a racer theme going on. What we have is the Redmi K50 Mercedes-Benz AMG Petronas Edition. Medyo mabigat yung box – it weighs 0.82 kg. It contains the phone, the charging brick, cables, and other peripherals.
At first look, the packaging isn’t sophisticated. Talagang ma-appreciate mo lang once you have it in your hands. Textured ang surface, the cardboard feels premium, and the blue and silver racer stripes shine beautifully in contrast to the black background with matching diagonal lines.
Horizontal ang orientation ng text kaya naman you will open the box sideways, instead of the regular cover-on-top. The Redmi K50 logo is printed in the same silver color sa racer stripes,
The Redmi K50 box also has a print of a stylized Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 on both left and right sides of the box.
Sa ilalim naman ng box makikita ang ibang details ng product: licenses, variant, and other features unique to the REDMI K50.
The most exciting part of the packaging is how it opens – meron syang hinge mechanism where it will reveal the phone by pushing it up in an inclined position. Parang wedding ring lang ang dating, kaya naman kung bibilhin mo ‘tong phone, it feels like a major present for yourself.
There’s another compartment sa ilalim ng phone and this contains the heavy GaN battery and the charging cable. The GaN cable is what makes the whole box heavy, but it’s able to give the phone power in just a few minutes of charge. It’s also more compact in terms of size, making it more comfortable.
Overall, the packaging is well thought-out with a quirky pop-up box concept na hindi mo madalas makita sa flagship phones.
Redmi K50 Gaming Edition DESIGN
Ang unang-una na mapapansin mo from the phone is the stylized back panel. Just like its packaging, meron rin siyang racer stripes running vertically. Mukha talagang sports car ang design because of the “hour-glass shape” na almost similar sa build ng AMG Petronas Formula. The design is also consistent with the box itself.
Parang foreshadowing na rin ang dating ng packaging sa phone: the Redmi K50 logo is located on the lower left side of the phone, while the AMD Petronas Formula Car is on the right side, halos hilera lang ng camera array.
Colorwise, the Redmi K50 is in a metallic, pale silver-blue color. But it’s not made of metal or plastic – the back panel of the Redmi K50 ay gawa sa polycarbonate material. Parang plastic na rin, but it’s more durable and can protect the device from major damage when it falls.
Despite being a gaming phone, it’s not actually very heavy or bulky. Yes, the phone weighs around 200g pero it’s quite slim. The exact dimensions are 6.42 x 3.00 x 0.33 in. It’s a compact gaming phone na madaling dalhin everywhere you go.
Other variants of the Redmi K50 have a glass back panel instead of the stylized polycarbonate and are missing some design elements, or have different texture profiles.
Located on the right side of the phone are the pop-up gaming triggers with their switches (more on this later), and the power button. Sa left side naman located ang volume rocker, sim tray, and an additional mic na magagamit during gaming mode, where players usually hold the phones in a horizontal fashion.
Sa taas naman located ang isa pang mic, IR blaster, and a uniquely-shaped speaker grill. Hindi lang sya run-of-the-mill na five-hole or four-hole type na speaker grill. There’s some engineering involved kaya naman iba ang sounds pag nag patugtog ng music. Or it could be a clever way of marketing the product. Either way, ang cool tignan ng speaker grill.
The bottom part of the phone contains the charging port (Type-C), a mic, and another speaker grill.
From the side, the phone looks slim, with only the camera array sticking out kaya hindi ito babagay sa flat surface. The back panel curves towards the edges so it’s comfortable to hold during gaming sessions.
The Redmi K50 is designed well for a gaming phone, and the pop-up physical triggers are a nice touch and callback to consoles, kaya pabor ‘to sa mga gamers who prefer something clickety.
Redmi K50 Gaming Edition DISPLAY
By default, the phone should have the AMG Petronas F1 car as its default wallpaper. We don’t mind changing the wallpaper, pero for the visual design team responsible for the Redmi K50, hats-off for making a custom and thematically-consistent na graphics.
Once you turn the phone on, you will be greeted by the AMG Petronas F1 car in black and blue – the same type of blue used in the racer lines sa packaging. Talagang may identity agad ang phone when you boot it up.
The AMG Petronas F1 Edition uses a 6.6” OLED display. While most phones today have AMOLED, the OLED produces brighter colors, and gives you the best phone display experience.
Viewing angles are great too – kahit tagilid pa ang phone, you can see the details on the screen clear as day. Regardless kung anong side ka tumingin, the OLED panel delivers exceptional picture quality. Screen time will never be the same pag nag switch ka sa ibang phones.
The Redmi K50 has slim bezels with equal distribution. Wala syang malaking chin or forehead, and the side bezels also don’t take up too much space. Although hindi sya ang phone na may pinaka manipis na bezels, it has more than enough screen space for viewing or gaming.
The front camera hole-punch can be a little distracting pero it’s barely noticeable when playing games.
Brightness can be adjusted for either daytime or nighttime use. In the settings, pwede rin baguhin ang color schemes: vivid, saturated, original or advanced settings. These settings are helpful when either watching or playing movies.
Pwede rin mag switch from P3 to sRGB or vice versa para sa color gamut. Ganun ka wide ang choices when it comes to a better display experience sa Redmi K50.
There are other features when it comes to the display, pero, all you need to know is that this device has an excellent display – it’s bright, it’s sharp, and it’s looking good.
Redmi K50 Gaming Edition PERFORMANCE
This phone is powered by a 4700mAh battery na sobrang tagal maubos at hanep sa bilis kapag chinarge. We’ve tested the battery on this unit, as well as the charging speeds, and masasabi lang namin na mas mabilis to mag-charge than most phones today.
Salamat na rin sa GAN charger which has 120W charging balik gaming session agad if ever this unit runs out of juice. We’ve tested how quick the charging rate is, and the unit already had 60% at 15 mins of charge.
The phone handles heavy workload well, kahit wala syang cooling fan. While other versions will get Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the gaming edition will be using the Mediatek chipset.
The realme GT Neo 3 also uses the same type of charger.
App launch is smooth – walang delays when opening multiple apps. Bootup also takes a few seconds only.
Redmi K50 Gaming Edition GAMING
We tested Genshin Impact on this game first – and we’re not surprised. The Redmi K50 is able to handle the high graphics demand of the game. Controls are responsive at hindi na kailangan idiin ang fingers sa screen to enjoy the game.
However, we noticed that the phone can get really hot when playing for extended periods of time. We recorded a 41 degree Celsius on the back panel at 30 minutes of game play. Hindi pa ‘to intense fight scenes and it’s just roaming around the Genshin Impact maps.
Part of the reason why it gets hot quickly is pano nadesign ang heatsink. The CPU doesn’t throttle at all because malayo ang heat source sa mismong chipset.
It’s closer to the surface ng phone (in this case, sa back panel) para mawala agad ang init. If you’re not comfortable playing with a warm phone, you can opt to stay in a colder environment or pwede rin mag gloves. The Redmi K50 takes care of your games’ demanding requirements.
For games like Mobile Legends, we can say this phone is more than enough for your everyday 5v5 battles. Maganda at malinaw ang graphics – litaw ang colors, and napepreserve ang details ng characters, plus yung game elements like the monsters, environment, and the animations are smooth.
Sagad na sa max settings sa Mobile Legends and we haven’t noticed a dip in the performance. Overall, maganda ang experience Mobile Legends. Sali mo na rin diyan ang curvature sa edges ng phone, kaya hindi masakit sa kamay in extended gaming sessions.
Redmi K50 Gaming Edition CAMERA
As for the camera, the Redmi K50 gaming edition uses a triple camera setup. The main camera uses a 64MP wide angle lens camera that captures excellent photos in good lighting conditions.
It also has an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP for macro shots. The ultrawide camera will be useful for scenic shots, or kung gusto nyo kumuna ng class picture. The macro lens will benefit more artsy individuals as it allows them to capture close-up photos with sharp details.
The front camera is equipped with a 20MP, HDR sensor na kaya rin mag record ng videos of up to 1080p at 60fps. Although the Redmi K50 gaming edition doesn’t have the best camera specs, the numbers show what it’s capable of, and talaga namang it’s more than your everyday smartphone.
Here are some sample pictures.
